Goodreads Choice Awards

One of the coolest (read: if I were an author, this would make me INSANELY happy to win) awards out there IMHO, is the annual GoodReads Choice Award. Voted on by Goodreads members, with the option for write ins, there is a 3 step process:
“You have three chances to vote during the month of November:

Opening Round: October 31 – November 13, 2011
Voting open to 15 official nominees, and write-in votes can be placed for any eligible book (the fine print).

Semifinals: November 14 – November 20, 2011
The top 5 write-in votes in each category become official nominees. You can vote for one of the now 20 nominees in each category. Additional write-ins no longer accepted.

Finals: November 21 – November 30, 2011
The field narrows to the top 10 books in each category, and you have one last chance to vote.

Winners will be announced in December. Thanks for voting!”

For anyone who doesn’t know, GoodReads is an online community of readers. You create your own  bookiverse complete with virtual bookshelves, ratings, and reviews. Everyone else can see your reviews and you can see theirs. coolness. There are book clubs and lists and trivia games, oh my!

This whole concept makes me smile, from a community of readers (take that you people who think the internets will kill reading, HA!), to then taking the time to reward the authors who make them happy. coolness. I must point out though, that there is no indication as to how the original 15 books in each category reach the ballot. I couldn’t find what the restrictions were, or if publishers/bookstores/authors/comittees were involved.

(ETA: GoodReads has no idea this blog exists. I am not plugging them in any way, except as a reader who thinks they rock.)

Such fun you have with GoodReads, good for you! I love your statement: (take that you people who think the internets will kill reading, HA!) It is very heartening to know that reading is not fading as many of us thought it might, myself included, rock on! 🙂

Are you out there? Hello? Anyone? (Thanks for reading! )
