Other YA awards…

There’s another group out there that shares my dilemma with awards for children’s /YA lit. Namely, either the award/judges are so pretentious and artsy, the books (while beautiful and stunning) don’t really appeal to kids, OR they seem like publisher gimmicks to win parental purchasing. Enter the Cybils. These awards are nominated and judged by folks who BLOG about children’s & YA lit. 🙂 The prize is relatively new (2006).  The categories for this one are:

Elementary & Middle Grade

Fiction Picture Books

Nonfiction Picture Books

Easy Readers

Short Chapter Books

Poetry

Graphic Novels

Fantasy & Science Fiction

Middle Grade Fiction

Winners, Young Adult

Non-fiction

Graphic Novels

 Fantasy & Science Fiction

Young Adult Fiction

Also, MANY states give individual awards for children’s/YA lit. I will cover more of these in depth later, but here’s a great link to all of them.
