Mock Newbery Awards

Imitation. Flattery. Call it what you want, but the Newbery Awards are so iconic that local libraries, schools, and book clubs routinely hold “Mock” votes and select their own winners. In a fictional world where I have time to do all I would like to do, it would be great to do a comparison and see how many years the amateurs were spot on, or which years I like their choices better than the official choice. (Note I said official. Both are equally “real” awards to me).

This was a great discussion on Goodreads, highlighting local libraries/groups who hold their own “Newbery” nominations and awards that the actual kids get to vote in, not just the “experts”.

And here’s a google for more results & groups who participate:*&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1
