An ode to diagramming….

I just had to post a link to this one. A whole blog entry (and even a book) about the history of diagramming sentences. (my inner geek is doing cartwheels, something my corporeal self cannot do, alas). Anyway, whether you love to diagram or hated it or (gasp!) have no idea what I’m talking about, you should click the linkie:

and read all about it!

I could not even begin to explain the parts of speech and other things explained in the above diagram, but I DEFINITELY remember having to do this in 5th and 6th grade specifically! Wow.

    • Oddly enough, I never had to diagram until college. I ended up taking a class on “The history and grammar of the English Language” and our final involved diagramming Hamlet’s soliloquy. ouch. the picture and post from the times brought some of it back….there’s no way I could do it now.

Are you out there? Hello? Anyone? (Thanks for reading! )
